Day 14. It’s been a few days.

I never thought I’d miss a place in Alabama. But I am genuinely sad to be leaving Selma behind. So far we have made our way through Atlanta, which was way more than expected, and Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Montgomery. All of our stops have exceeded my expectations in such good ways. The Deep South has a rich and sadly, still alive history. If you ever thought that segregation was over you have never been down to the very birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement.

Yesterday we spent time traveling around Selma, Alabama learning about the Voting Rights Movement, slavery reenactments, and a confederacy cemetery. The latter half of the day was spent with the organization Freedom Foundation which provides support for the youth population in the area. There are two schools in Selma, one for whites and one for blacks. Although this is not an advertised segregation it is certainly still segregation. This, however, is a topic for another time.

With that simple update I am going to continue to look into social justice careers including those down here.
